Many people in America have lived sedentary lifestyles since an early age. Not everyone gets a head start on their physical health by playing sports at an early age. A common misnomer about physical fitness is that “it’s too late for me.” I didn’t “wake up” to physical fitness until the age of 26, and in 2014 more people than ever are becoming physically active for the first time – across all ages. For me, it all began when my friends encouraged me to join a company softball team. To my surprise, I was so out of shape that I quit the team in embarrassment. “How could this happen to me?” I thought. I was so young, and even though I hadn’t played sports in years I knew that no 26 year old should have to quit a casual sports team due to poor physical fitness.

I wasn’t going to accept living in poor health for the rest of my life. We all deserve to live long, healthy and prosperous lives – for ourselves and our loved ones. I bought a book on exercise techniques shortly after I quit the softball team. Slowly but surely I became enthralled in the subject of exercise. I was a smoker back then, and I cannot imagine what my life would be if I didn’t have exercise to replace a habit that is so detrimental to health. One year after I quit the softball team, I rejoined and stayed for 10 years.

I started working in the fitness industry in 1987. My first fitness job was at a small studio that specialized in circuit training. While working there, my co-workers started referring members with back, knee and shoulder issues to me. In 1997, I earned my Fitness Specialist certification from The Cooper Institute through Joliet Junior College. A few years later I earned the Master Fitness Specialist certificate for special populations such as cardiac patients, the elderly and diabetics.

In 1998, I opened my first personal training studio: Personal Fitness by Carol White, located in Morris, IL. This studio did well and I sold it in 2007. I recently bought that studio back and renamed it Personal Fitness.”

I’m 70 years old and been working out with Carol for over a year now and she really has helped me to be able to do things that I haven’t been able to do for more than 15 years such as take a bath. I used to have so much trouble getting in and out of the bathtub that I only took showers. Now I bathe as often as I like. I also had to ask for help to put cases of bottled water in my trunk and when I took them into the house I had to take only 4 or 5 at a time. Now I can do it all by myself and I carry the whole case in at once! She has made a huge difference in my life.

I like going to private gyms because of the privacy. I didn’t want to go to a gym where I felt like everyone was watching me with my total lack of coordination! I do things now that I never thought I would be able to do because I know that no one else is there to see.

I’m a 27 year old guy who started out in poor physical condition due to a busy work schedule sitting at a desk all day. I didn’t want to be intimidated by a huge guy that has no idea what it’s like to be out of shape! I get an excellent workout with Carol and I am starting to get real compliments on how I look.

I have greatly enjoyed my sessions with Jackie. Her flexible hours allow me to schedule around my work schedule and still find time to work on other goals. Jackie’s workouts help me to focus on my identified areas of improvement. She has been able to push me to excel while also knowing my limitations. She does a great job of breaking down technique into small, manageable stages. My time with Jackie is well spent as I progress through my winter goals.

I play with my kids every day, I wake up happier than I have in a long time, my house is clean (most of the time, its fitness not a cleaning fairy lol), my depression is all but gone, I haven’t taken a pain pill of any kind in 3 weeks, I am careful about what I eat, I care what fuels my body, my attitude is better & brighter, I am more focused, I avoided having to have a surgery, I do an hour of cardio every day, I see my trainer once a week, I have gone up every week in weights and also have gone up in reps, my clothes are no longer tight, I have lost 4 lbs, and I feel really really good!! These may seem like small things, but they are huge for me, and only getting bigger and better. I used to say I would rather be skinny than strong, and while I still don’t want to bulk up haha, I’d rather be strong mentally & physically than be anything else. And these last 4 weeks have been the foundation I need to continue to build that strength. I am happy to say that I am signing up for another 4 weeks with my trainer, and seriously can’t thank her enough for what she has done in the last 4 weeks, and look forward to what my body will transform into in the weeks to come!!! If you are looking for a trainer or interested in setting new fitness goals, I highly recommend Jaclyn Litwiller!! She is amazing at her job and she truly cares & is invested in your goals!! I can guarantee you will be happy you did!
